Donoso to Join RLR/Andersen Racing
For Saturday's Firestone Indy Lights Race
At Iowa Speedway
PALMETTO, Fla., June 15 - One of Andersen Racing's former Star Mazda
drivers, Pablo Donoso of Santiago, Chile, will rejoin the team for the Firestone
Indy Lights race at Iowa Speedway this Saturday, June 20.
Donoso, 24, will drive the RLR/Andersen Racing No. 9 sponsored by Andersen
Racing and Allied Interior Products in the race, which starts at 8 p.m.
local time.
Live coverage of the race is slated for indycar.com. The 115-lap event will
also be broadcast at 4 p.m. Eastern time on Monday, June 22 on VERSUS.
Donoso won the Firestone Indy Lights race at Infineon Raceway on Aug. 24,
2008 from the pole while driving for Team Moore Racing.
He started the 2009 season with Brian Stewart Racing before doing the two
most recent events with Genoa Indy Lights, and is currently 16th in the point
standings.
He started tenth and finished fifth in this event last June.
Donoso has also been impressive in USAC Silver Crown events on Iowa
Speedway's seven-eighths-mile trioval. He finished second to Dave Steele in that
series' inaugural race at Iowa Speedway on Sept. 17, 2006. The following May
he led the first seven laps of the USAC Silver Crown race at Iowa Speedway
and was in contention throughout the event until his engine blew on the
frontstretch just 17 laps from the finish of the 100-lapper.
"I've done well at Iowa in the past, but this year has been hard so far,"
Donoso said. "I know how professional Andersen Racing is because I raced
with them in Star Mazda. Dan Andersen and his family and the whole team are
very professional, and I know the car will be good. I'm really thankful to
Dan for giving me this opportunity. I will do my best at Iowa. I would like
to run more races with the team if possible too."
Mario Romancini, who won the Firestone Indy Lights race at the Milwaukee
Mile on May 31 from the pole after leading all 100 laps, will also represent
the Palmetto, Fla.-based team at Iowa. Currently third in the point
standings, the native of Sao Paulo, Brazil will be in his familiar No. 5 sponsored b
y Andersen Racing, Revita Recycling, Win Brazil Marketing, Allied Interior
Products and Lafarge North America.
Two other RLR/Andersen Racing Firestone Indy Lights drivers will be forced
to sit out this particular event. Jonathan Summerton of Kissimmee, Fla.
will miss it while he tries to raise additional sponsorship funds. He is
currently fifth in the point standings, just 37 points out of the lead. He
topped those standings just last month in the very competitive series.
RLR/Andersen's Ali Jackson of Belfast, Northern Ireland will also be absent
at Iowa due to a delay in obtaining the proper international travel
documents he needs to re-enter the country. The team expects him back in the
States for the race at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, N.Y. on July
4.
